Evidence-Based Hyperbaric Medicine
ACHM is committed to the appropriate, ethical, and evidence-based use of hyperbaric oxygen therapy.
Hyperbaric medicine is sometimes misunderstood as a niche or alternative treatment. In clinical practice, hyperbaric oxygen therapy is used within defined medical indications and as part of multidisciplinary care for selected conditions.
ACHM supports clinical practice grounded in scientific evidence, professional competency, responsible clinical judgment, and patient safety. The College does not support unsupported medical claims or the presentation of unproven applications as established standards of care.
This commitment to scientific integrity helps guide ACHM’s educational, professional, and safety-focused initiatives.
A Legacy Dating Back to 1983
ACHM was founded in 1983 by physicians who recognized the need for a national professional organization dedicated to the developing specialty of hyperbaric medicine.
Over more than four decades, the College has contributed to professional education, clinical guidance, safety initiatives, research efforts, and the continued development of the field.
